  • 1993 Geoffrey Beene Documented Black & Beige Sequin Geometric Long-Sleeve Gown

A chic and timeless Geoffrey Beene black and golden-beige documented garment from his iconic 1993 couture collection. Geoffrey Beene made strong impressions with his courteous manner as well as his highly original style. He was a champion of minimalist design. His body-contoured dresses were marvels of cut and proportion. As the FIT Museum examples, "with this gown, Geoffrey Beene explores strategies of concealing and revealing the body through the use of beige and black sequins, and by manipulating color and geometric form, he emphasizes the contrast between waist and hips. Known for infusing wry humor into his designs, Beene subtly suggests the notion of a sarong coming undone - a scene once he observed when a gust of wind caused a woman to grab at her unraveling cover-up. Remaining true to his sense of propriety, Beene employs beige sequins to hint at the notion of bare flesh while keeping the body concealed, thus preserving the dress' overall modesty." The figure flattering nipped waist silhouette accentuates the bust while skimming the hips in such an elegant way. A very rare collector's piece from one of America's greatest designers. The pictures say it all.
