  • 1949 Lanvin Haute Couture Sculpted Black Wool Documented Dress

An incredibly gorgeous and well documented Jeanne Lanvin haute couture sculpted black wool cocktail dress dating back to the mid to fall-winter 1949. Lanvin was recognized for her innovative approach to fashion as well as for her fine craftsmanship. When she conceived a garment she would select fabrics, shaping techniques, and ornamentation which she deemed would enhance a woman’s femininity, beauty, and youthfulness. Lanvin was best known for her modern looking clothing that gave women freedom of movement. Her daughter Marguerite was the muse for her business and went on to take over the house. This ultra chic 'femme fatale' cocktail dress is fashioned from the highest quality mid-weight silk blended wool which is soft to the touch. The elegant long-sleeve bodice has gorgeous duel ticket pocket detail and covered button cuffs. My favorite design element is the bold asymmetric winged peplum which really catches the eye. The fitted wiggle skirting with original golden satin waist sash flatters the figure by accenting the waist and not added any extra bulk to the hip. You do not easily find this level of workmanship on garments today. The pictures say it all.

    Measurements
    Bust:34-35 inches
    Waist: 26 inches
    Hips: 36 inches
    Total Length: 47 inches

This stunning 1949 Lanvin haute couture dress is in beautiful condition with no stains, discoloration or alternations. Presents beautifully. The garment closes with hand-set side metal zipper and original sleeve covered-buttons. After close inspection we found an older repair by the button cuffs and one little pin-hole by the side waist. Please message for detailed pictures. A slice of well-documented French fashion history.
