  • 2003 Gucci by Tom Ford Runway Cherry Blossom Stretch Silk Mini Dress

    ID: 0813231
    Size: medium
    Condition: Excellent

Absolutely gorgeous and instantly recognizable 2003 spring/summer Gucci by Tom Ford documented runway look #3 worn by Frankie Rayder. This iconic cherry blossom stretch silk jersey mini dress exudes such a fantastic, flirtatious vibe. Vogue stated, "The Gucci girl’s got legs—long, tan, flawless ones striding along on silver peep-toe sling-back pumps. Follow them all the way up, and around two weeks later, they eventually meet the hem of the minutest piece of clothing that was ever called a skirt or dress. For spring, in a word, Tom Ford says short.
Using lustrous fabrics in subtle makeup colors from blush to tawny brown, pearly gray and silver, Ford draped and wrapped his gorgeous girls in clothes that navigated that dangerous Gucci line between innovation and vulgarity. The tousled hair, the jackets and tops poised to fall off shoulders—the whole presentation stirred sensations that fashion hasn’t felt since the last days of the great supermodels."
This effortless dress fashioned in luxurious stretch silk jersey, with the prettiest cherry blossom and birds motif, is a wonderful example of Tom Ford's genius. The dress is meant to be worn short and the jersey stretches to accommodate the hips so it stays in place perfectly. The bodice of the dress blouses over loose with a slight kimono flair. The front sits as low as you wish it to and you can even wear the dress slouched off one or both shoulders! I adore the wide open sleeves and backless low scoop design. So chic! It also still has its original elastic across that back which was meant to keep the garment in place. Most women removed this before wearing so it is rare to see one still with this in place. We have shown the dress the way it is meant to be worn like Frankie on the runway and also extended the fabric as a different styling option. It's an incredible piece of fashion history given that it is the true runway version and one of the most beloved collections from his tenure with the label.
